Marjean Pountain attended Mediation/Mediator Training Seminar presented by National Association of Realtors

Marjean Pountain has successfully completed a twenty-hour comprehensive course of instruction on mediation skills and procedures authorized and presented under the auspices of the Professional Standards Committee of the National Association of Realtors® which was held December 10, 11 and 12, 2008 in Chicago, Illinois.
The Mediation/Mediator Training Seminar was led by Northwestern University Law School’s Lynn Cohn, Duke University Law School’s Rene Stemple Ellis, and NAR Educator of the Year, Bruce Aydt.
It was an intensive two and a half day learning experience designed to enhance and refine existing mediation skills. The seminar featured a full day of three-person mediation simulations guided by individual mediation coaches. The instructional and comprehensive support materials enable participants to serve as mediators for their state and local associations and to share the techniques, skills, and expertise they gain with others. These training efforts coupled with the willingness of those who attended enable the REALTOR® organization to effectively embrace and provide mediation as a valuable additional dispute resolution tool.
Marjean attended the seminar on behalf of the Institute of Real Estate Management along with Eileen Lynch of the IREM staff. They hope to incorporate mediation in the services that IREM provides to its members, and will take their findings and knowledge back to IREM International Headquarters and to the IREM Ethics Committee at their conference in Washington D.C. in April of 2009.
